Beco Baby Carrier

Today I decided to do a review on a product that I use a lot - the Beco Baby Carrier in black.

I bought the BabyBj√∂rn Original, at first, and used it for a little while. It was great when Mason was a newborn but now that he's 17 pounds it's impossible to carry him around in it. It's bad for him, and extremly painful for my back. So I realize now that it was a very bad choice!!! You always learn from your mistakes...  So now I hope my new baby carrier will last for more than four months!

So far I used the Beco carrier enough to review the good, and not so good,  things about it!

First of all I would say that, generally, I'm very happy with it!!! Compared to the BabyBjörn, it's like day and night for my back! The support on it is amazing - most of it is on the hip so I can walk for hours with him without feeling any discomfort. This is a big, big plus for me since I love being able to still carry Mason.

One thing that I really like about it, and one of the main reasons I chose to buy it, is that you have four different ways to carry your baby - in the front facing you or facing forward, on the hip or as a backpack! So far, I only used it in front of me. Mason is still to young for the last two options.

As you can see, the side strap is a little dirty right now. That's because when I carry Mason facing me, he likes to chew on it. There's nothing I can do to prevent it... I'll just have to wash the carrier once in a while.

One thing that's not that great, at least for now (I read that it's because my baby is still too small), is that when I carry him facing forward the materiel in front of him is right in front of his mouth instead of under is chin! You can imagine how much he loves it since he's teething like crazy and can chew on it the entire time... so tasty!!! Of course, being the amazing mom that I am :) I found a solution and added a small comfort blanket so he won't mess up the carrier with his cute little drool.

Even though the hip belt is pretty thick I can still sit with it and be very comfortable. This is a great thing because sometimes I have to wear it at home to put Mason to sleep! Once the job is done I don't have to wait around standing up - I can sit and let him take his little nap close to me...

My husband loves it too, and feels very comfortable carrying Mason in it! When we were looking for a new carrier we found that the Ergobaby was top rated and that a lot of people were recomanding it. It might sound silly but we were looking for something very comfortable but also fashionable! We wanted something black and totally plain, without any brand logo etc... The ergo baby was black and beige while the Beco was exactly designed like we wanted! So Beco won...

The security on it is also very good. There's a small lock on the buckles that makes it extremely safe. I love the security of knowing that they won't open by accident. But it's also not that great at the same time, (at least until you get used to it) because it's much more difficult to take off on your own. Now I'm totally used to it so I don't have any problem putting it on or taking it off on my own, but at first I was scared it was gonna be a problem!

In the end, we are very happy about our choice. It's a very good product and I'm sure we will use it a lot... It was a little bit expensive, at $140, but way worth it from my point of view!!!

Mirror, mirror...

While my sister was with us the last couple weeks, she took a lot of pictures and experimented with some shots of Mason. One day she had the idea of removing a large mirror from our bedroom, placing it on the bed, and taking photos of Mason on it! At first, Mason was not a huge fan of the idea. For him, to lie down naked on this hard, cold surface was not such a great idea after all. But once he got used to it, he started to notice himself in the mirror and liked what he saw! Here are the results of this cute little photoshoot :)

 ^ My little drooler :) ^

^ Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who's the fairest one of all? ^

 ^ He enjoyed kissing himself! :p ^

A family day in Central Park

What a better place than Central Park to take a little stroll as a family... We live in the Upper West Side, so it's very convinient for us to get there. I could go every single day and never get tired of it! I've always been amazed by the peace and quite you can feel even though it's in the middle of one of the busiest and craziest cities in the world! It's the perfect place to walk around without any planned direction or destination. I always find small little routes that bring me to a place I've never been before...

One of my favorite parts of the park, that is very close to our home, is the lake in front of the Boat House. The circle with the fountain where there's such an amazing view of all of the boats... Such a peaceful place...

^ I heard once that those in love look in the same direction ^

^ They probably laugh together too :) ^

^ One of my favorite things is how Mason laughs and smiles when he's with his Dad! ^

I also love the arch next to the fountain that you can find under the bridge. The light over there is breathtaking and you can usually find someone playing some classical music or singing opera. Those things combined makes it very special, and just makes me feel so good!

After we met

After we met at the airport, Anthony had to leave to catch his connecting flight back home to the Bay Area. I then waited for my friends to pick me up at the airport. While waiting I called my mom, first to tell her that I landed safely, and second that I had met a guy on the plane. The funny part is that she kind of predicted it before I left! When I decided to go to Miami it was because I needed a bit of an escape from my chaotic love life at that time.  Before I left, my mom told me, "who knows, maybe you'll meet someone on the plane." The same exact thing actually happened to her when she was young. Travelling to NY, she met a man on the plane who she spent years with after. So I told her my story too, just for fun, having no idea of what would happen next!

Very soon after that my friends arrived and we were off to their home. I remember that one of the first things I did after we got there was ask them for their WiFi password so that I could connect to Facebook.
I couldn't wait, and I went right away to look for Anthony's profile. Of course I went through all the pictures and info that I could see at that time. One thing that I noticed right away is that his birthday is one day after mine - his on February 11, and mine on February 10. What are the odds? I then invited him as a friend and decided not to do anything else and let him take the next step...

I cannot tell you how impatient I was while waiting for him to accept my request! If I remember it well, he accepted the day after and wrote me a quick email. I replied right away with some help from my best friend at the time - Google translate - best buddy ever!

I don't know what I would have done without it! We exchanged emails like that for a couple days. Then, under the guise of language practice, Anthony suggested that we start talking on the phone to work on our English and French. I proposed to use Skype since I was using it a lot with my friends and family. He accepted the invitation immediately and we set up a Skype meeting for the next day - the very first of many Skype calls to come...

Even with a 3 hour time difference, and his work schedule and my time at school and with friends, we succeeded to make it work. I think we set up the call around 10pm for me and 7pm for him. The most amazing thing is that I don't recall it being awkward at all. I was quite confortable and the conversation was pretty natural - even though we were total strangers, not from the same culture and speaking a different language. We spoke about so many things. I was capable of understanding most of what he was saying but was incapable of making sentences to reply on my own, but with the help of Google Translate,  it somehow worked out pretty well.

At one point in the conversation, I was getting tired, and I remember looking at the clock and being surprised that it was already 4:00am! We were speaking for over 6 hours and it felt like it was 30 min... we were both so comfortable with one another! I was gonna get up at 6am to go to school so I needed to sleep at least an hour. I told him that we could Skype again next week if he wanted and he told me that he had nothing to do tomorrow, so we could talk again then. Of course we did, and again for about 6 hours straight. The same thing happened every single night for about 10 days and we loved it!

One night out of nowhere, Anthony asked me if I would like him to visit me in Miami. At that point I didn't hesitated and said yes right away - thinking in the back of my mind that he would never do it. The next morning I was at school and he texted me saying that he got his plane ticket and that he would arrive the day after! Wow, finally a man who knows what he wants and isn't afraid to go after it!

One thing I probably didn't do right was that I never spoke about Anthony to the friends I was staying with. And now I had to tell them the incredible story of meeting a guy on the plane, speaking with him on Skype every night, and arranging for him to come see me the next day! Those things don't happen every single day and I had no idea how they would react to it. I remember it like it was yesterday - during the afternoon we were in their swimming pool and out of nowhere I told them the whole story. As the nice people they are, they were very supportive but told me to be careful!

At that time, I realised that it was real and that I would actually see him in person again soon. Knowing the attraction we had for each other, and the way in which we met, it seemed kind of surreal and maybe a little weird...

I was very excited and so freakin' scared at the same time...

A day in Coney Island

We've lived in New York for two and a half years now and we've never been to Coney Island. I always wanted to go but never had the occasion - ok, I know, do I really needed one? :p With my sister visiting now, it was definitely a good time since she's as childish as I am sometimes! I don't know what I was expecting, but with all of the pictures that I saw and what I've heard, I thought it was going to be much much bigger. But it was fun and beautiful, and I really felt like I was on vacation for the day.

^ We just got there and this little ogre was already starving ^

As soon as we arrived, my husband was like a 5 years old again! He wanted to go on every single ride and wanted to play every game - yep, that crazy man! But it's one of the side's of his personality that I like the most. He always makes me laugh and it's always a lot of fun doing things with him...

^ At least it was useful - I got my Minion :) ^

The Minion acted as a great bottle holder! Because of him, Mason was able to drink on his own for the first time :)

We passed by a carrousel, and of course we had to get on! It's also one of the only rides that Mason is allowed on right now. But the experience this time was not that great, since as soon as the carrousel operator saw how I was sitting with Mason, she stopped it and yelled at me because it was not the way I was supposed to ride with him! If I can say so, I'm his mom, and I know how to hold him and make sure he's secure. But it was still nice...

It's such a pleasure to have a baby you can bring with you everywhere and is always in a great mood! He brings us so much joy no matter where we go...

^ Lunch break on the beach... Mason couldn't really enjoy the view though :) ^

Walking along the beach made us feel so good... The last time we did this was a pretty long time ago, probably over a year! As we were walking, we realized that we will soon be able to do it much more often. We just can't wait!

^ I could kiss him all over his chubby body again and again ^

Lately, it's always a first time for something. And this time, it was Mason's very first time on the beach. He's still too young to go in the water though. I just can't wait to build castles and do crazy things in the sand with him... it's going to be so much fun!

^ My sunglasses fit him perfectly ^

^ It was such a hot day, we had to take off Mason's cloths. Gosh that kid likes to be naked :p ^

^ I love playing with him when he's in his stroller. He always laughs so much when he sees my face ^

^ Even with his nose totally scratched, he's still so cute ^

By the end of it, we really enjoyed the day! It's true that there was not too much to do, but the weather, the beach, and the view made it very nice. I probably would not go back again but I'm glad I went there at least once. I'm even more happy to have waited for Mason to be born to go - it made it even better...
