My mom and Mason

When my mom visited us from France, she wanted to do 2 things: Spend all of her time with Mason and go to the beach... Being in LA was making it pretty easy :p !!! She hadn't seen us for about 5 months so it was so good to be reunited for a little bit.

We spent a couple days at the beach during her stay and here are some pics of one of those days... I loved seeing her enjoy it and have some great moments with her grandson! They see each other on Facetime all the time and it was funny to see how much connection they already had even though they don't see each other in person that often. Technology makes the distance way easier...

Mason's enjoying the beach so much lately... I think he loved having double the attention!

He's crazy about the seagulls... At the beach he kept chasing them - until one seagull came after him! :)

I loved watching them do things on their own. Watching my mom bonding at the beach with my baby was such a precious moment!

Mason's smash cake

We saved Mason's birthday cake for him so he could have fun with it and smash it! Preparing his first birthday was a lot of fun and I was so impatient to make him smash his cake and take pictures of him doing it...

I set up a little area ready for him to get dirty...

I attracted him by putting a few toys around which worked even though he wasn't really noticing what was going on around it...

After a little while I had to take the toys away because I felt it wasn't actually helping, but instead distracting him. I took him and sat him around his cake but he didn't seem to have any interest in it! So I tried to make him taste a little bit of it thinking that once he'd realize how sweet it is then he'll go crazy for it...

My husband tried to help by putting Mason's hand right into it and I think you can tell by looking at the expression on his face how much he liked it...

And then it was too much... he didn't like the feeling of it at all!  For some reason he was super scared of his birthday cake! It was a moment mixed with frustration and laughter at the same time - to watch him have this kind of reaction when he should be so happy and going crazy for it. It made me laugh but at the same time I was upset that he wasn't giving me the moment I was waiting for, for so long... He'll celebrate his first birthday only once!

So I tried again later that day, but we chose a different setup this time thinking that maybe if he's in his high chair he'd feel better...

This time he looked at the cake way more...

Kind of wanted to do something with it...

But he was too scared again! It didn't work at all and after that I thought there wouldn't be any point of continuing to try, so I just gave up! The funniest thing about this story is that a few days later when I finally decided to throw the cake away, I showed it to him and he put his hand right into it with the biggest smile on his face!

Mason's first birthday...

One year old...
We threw a birthday party at home with some friends and family!

His birthday party theme was bunnies and hot air balloon. The dessert table was so beautiful that no one wanted to touch it!

My mom flew all the way from France to be with us on this big day! I'm so happy she was abl to share it with us and to see how Mason has grown...

He had a lot of gifts but was to tired to do anything with them. He refused to nap all day long so he was totally out of it for most of the time :(

^ that face :p ^

Why do we give him toys when he only wants to play with tools?...

He finally passed out at one point in my arms which basically never ever happen anymore. That was my gift for his birthday! It didn't last long enough unfortunatelly for me...

Once everyone was gone we played a little bit with all of his new toys and especially with his new plane! I can't wait to see him ride his plane on his own. It's the cuttest thing ever... :)

And we ended the day by the best hugs in the world. He's not that much of a cuddling baby lately but the last few days he seems to be back into it. I can't tell how much I love it! To me it's probably one of my favorite things to do with him. I could stay like that for hours...
